Where can I find free climate change books?

Climate change books offer a thought-provoking and compelling way to do a deeper dive into the climate crisis. Authors from around the world have written and published thousands of works of climate fiction, climate nonfiction, and climate poetry. Many of these have something important and unique to say about the climate crisis.

But what if you can’t afford to buy all of those climate change books? Is there any place online where you can read climate change books, short stories, and poetry for free?

Yes! This reading list is a collection of every free climate change book we’ve found so far that meets our book inclusion criteria. You can enjoy many hours of climate change reading simply by going through the titles on this list. Be sure to bookmark this page so that you can read all of the stories and check back for new titles as we find them.

We would also like to point out that you probably have a local library in your area that lets you read many books for free. It’s not in our financial interest to tell you that since most of the funding we need to maintain this site comes from affiliate links! However, we want to be sure that you find the climate change books you’re looking for, regardless of where or how you read them.

If you want to get books for free while also supporting climate authors, please consider using library-based ebook services like Hoopla, BorrowBox, and others available through your local library. These sites/apps use a business model that gives authors a small payment each time the book is borrowed. Thanks to the wonderful work of your local library, you can read the book on your device for free while the author receives the funding they need to keep writing and publishing!

Book Inclusion Criteria

We selected books and stories for this list based on the following criteria: accuracy, significance, engagement, and popularity. For more information on our book inclusion criteria, please visit our About page.

Do you know of a book or story that should be on this list? Let us know! We’re mostly interested in “permafree” books and stories, but if you tell us about a limited-time giveaway well in advance, we may be able to include it here.
