Climate Change Books donates 10% of our proceeds from book sales and website ads to climate justice groups. We’ve decided to give our Fall 2024 donation to the Center for Story-based Strategy.
Center for Story-based Strategy
The Center for Story-based Strategy cultivates imagination spaces where story, grassroots leadership, organizing, and democracy are interwoven strategies to build power.
What is story-based strategy and how does it relate to climate justice?
Story-based strategy is a participatory approach that links movement building with an analysis of narrative power and places storytelling at the center of social change. If you’re making anything to put out in the world that is meant to change the story towards justice and liberation, then story-based strategy might be for you.
We first discovered the Center for Story-Based Strategy by browsing the list of members of the Climate Justice Alliance. If you’re ever looking for climate justice groups to support, that’s a good place to start.
We chose to support this group for two reasons.
First of all, their theory of change includes a just transition framework. Working for a just transition from an extractive economy to a regenerative economy is a central component of the movement for climate justice.
Second, their central focus on storytelling as a force for social change is rare, important, and closely aligned with our mission here at Climate Change Books. We believe that storytelling, both fiction and nonfiction, is an essential component of any successful movement for social change. The Center for Story-based Strategy helps people craft compelling stories about justice movements and leverage those stories as a force for social change.
We encourage all of our readers to check out the Center for Story-based Strategy, the Climate Justice Alliance, and all of the other climate justice groups we support.
We don’t have a high traffic site (yet!), so we don’t have much to contribute in terms of money or referral traffic. But we’re happy to show our support with what we do have. We invite our readers to do the same. With our powers combined, we can make a difference for climate justice!
